The reason I ended it this way was to show why people need to be present with each other. If there was no consequence in the end, then so what? I also wanted those who think their lives are meaningless to see that they are probably wrong. They probably mean a great deal to those around them and are a benefit even to strangers. To me, this was a positive message in disguise.
